Pierre
Auguste Renoir Biography
Pierre
Auguste Renoir (1841-1919). French Impressionist - Born in Limoges,
France on February 25, 1841. Renoir began painting as a child in a
porcelain factory in Paris painting designs on china continuing on
to copy paintings on lampshades and fans. Renoir's formal training
to study painting began in 1862-53 under Charles Gabriel Gleyre in
Paris, France. Renoir became friends with Claude Monet and admired
Monet's paining effects of light . In 1874 Renoir joined the new impressionist
painters in their the first exhibition. In 1883 Renoir held a solo
exhibit at the Durand-Ruel Gallery in Paris. He was as interested
in painting the human figure as he was the landscape and still lifes
of flowers and fruit. Many of his famous paintings show the interactions
of people in their daily lives. Among these are the famous "Luncheon
of the Boating Party", " Les Deux Soeurs", "The
Swing", "Woman with Fan", and "Dance at Bougival".
Pierre Auguste Renoir saw beauty in the subjects he painted whether
the nude female form, pretty landscapes, still lifes or pretty children.
He wanted to portray the beautiful side of life - remarking their
were enough unpleasant things as it was. Renoir became crippled with
rheumatism in his last years yet continued to paint until his death
in 1919.
